Research into my game world - Alice in Wonderland

da2g19

My game is inspired by the famous children’s novel and movie, Alice in wonderland which depicts a young girl called Alice who discovers the peculiar world of wonderland by discovering a mysterious white rabbit going through a rabbit hole and she curiously crawls inside of this rabbit hole and suddenly starts falling down this hole which feels like it never ends.

Then as she eventually does reach the bottom of this rabbit hole, she discovers a vial with a strange liquid inside along with a sign written on it which has the words ”Drink me” and decides to drink it as children are naturally curious about things even if they might not be aware of the consequences behind them. She suddenly starts to shrink to the size of a mouse and enters a door that seems like it’s beckoning her to open and enter what could be behind this door, she does decide to enter this door and she is greeted to a mystical world surrounded by giant mushrooms and mythical creatures which introduce themselves to Alice and inform her there‘s an evil villain that is corrupting the land of wonderland called the Red queen which if the citizens of this land don’t abide to her every command she will punish them.

So it’s Alice‘s job to stop the Red queen meddling and corrupting the world of Wonderland and help bring the world to peace.

The core inspirations to take from this novel, is definitely the falling through the hole sequence during the beginning of the novel as that is how the beginning of my game starts off but instead of a rabbit hole the main character crawls into, the main character crawls into a wooden shaped door carved into a tree inside their garden but the way they both fall are similar but the main character gains the mechanic whilst their falling but are unaware that they’ve gained this mechanic until they’re actually inside the main world.

Then there’s the mystical environment and the inhabitants that both my game and this novel which are both unique, the giant mushrooms definitely inspired me to create the glowing mushroom based puzzle and the villagers themselves are unlike any other person they’ve ever encountered in their normal regular lives.
