My essential experience

The essential experience of my game is to create a world of wonder and to capture the feeling of excitement of a fantastical world by interacting and adapting within the environment of that world using the act of manipulation (like stepping into the world of Alice in Wonderland for example).

I created a mood board to showcase what some possible areas in the game could look like and what I mean when objects in this world that don’t serve there regular purpose like in real life such as gargantuan mushrooms surrounding the area around the player that can be used as lanterns to light the way to help the player advance into a new section of the world. I really want the player to feel a sense of awe and to make this world seem mysterious almost as if they were in the same shoes as the character feeling those emotions through this mystical world that they setting their on for the very first time.

This mood board (below) is an example of games that have a concept of manipulation revolved around them and using objects to help the player advance games such as control which revolves your main character can bend and push objects to use to your advantage and attacking enemies, then there’s little nightmares which the objects around the room seem gigantic compared to the small height of your main character which you can use those objects to advance by using a chest of drawers as a ladder to climb to the top of the chest to jump to a bed for example.

- What is essential to that is to make objects and surroundings that don‘t truly exist in the real world so that this can blur the line between the world between reality and fantasy such as mystical forests that include gargantuan trees that don’t serve the function/purpose of how trees would function in real life such as making them into homes. Or gigantic mushrooms that almost light the way for the player and to help direct them to their next objective for example .

- How to capture that experience is to almost “bend the perception” of real world functions by using the functions of the environment to your advantage to complete certain tasks/objectives.
