Creating a prototype of my environment in Dreams (PS4) - testing out the general move set on console

After creating a prototype of my environment in Blender, I decided to create another prototype but this time, this time I created it on a PS4 game known as Dreams which is a game that allows you to create games, prototypes and animations for others to play and enjoy. So by creating this prototype on a console it helps me understand and think about if I want to utilise the controls to fit to a console based platform or a pc based platform, there is also some footage of me testing out the prototype from two different game perspectives - first person or third person perspective - this also will help me think about which one of these perspectives would be ideal for my game (or I could have both with one being used more than the other).

So first, I placed down a grassy field with trees and a dirt path object and placed more than one of these objects that are leading uphill with constant readjusting and resizing making sure that the player fall through the void as they’re walking through the world, next to fix some areas up a bit I placed a variety of normal grass objects around some of the parts of the world that seem a bit too linear.

Next was to place the decorative parts of the environment, first was to place the glowing mushrooms from the other prototype from blender, I placed them at the massive area at the very edge of the dirt path and placed a variety of sizes around the area. Then to place the alchemist’s house (which further detail about this is connected to the dialog system and the puzzle workshop) and I placed it slightly behind the mushrooms to further add to the significance of the context behind the two related workshops. Next was to place some logs just dotted around the environment for extra detail to add to the environment, then it was time to add some buildings towards the sides of the environment as these could be the houses of the villagers who live in this world. Finally, it was time to add some lighting in this world so I changed the time of day from the morning into the night so that this can help the glowing mushrooms stand out in this world, then to incorporate the other prototype even further and added some fireflies to act as lighting for the player to actually see in this environment. After decorating and making the environment, it was time to test out the player perspective and seeing which one could work for my game, first I tried testing the environment through the first person perspective going from start to finish playing around in the environment, then I played through the third perspective again playing from beginning to end moving and jumping around the environment.

Overall, it was really fun to create my environment in this game and I have decided that my game should work through a console controller map as it seemed quite easy to utilise and control whilst I myself was testing out the environment with my own controller. Then the camera perspective that I think would work well within my game would be the third person perspective as I want people to remember the main character whilst playing the game as first person perspective would be better suited for characters based off of character creation as the player wouldn’t really need to focus on the character if they are based off of character creation.
