Game mechanic and how it works

The main idea of how my game mechanic would is that the player will be able to manipulate the flow of time of an object and the enemies around them in order to progress to a new area and to earn some monetary value such as gold for example so that they will be able to use that gold to purchase items in stores that they will encounter throughout the game. The mechanic usually lasts for about 10-15 in game seconds which should give players the right amount of time to either deal enough damage to an enemy or solve a puzzle to advance to a new area.

The player will also be able to manipulate the daytime cycle as some areas such as stores might only be accessible during the day and closed at night or some puzzles may only be interactable during the night (as discussed in my making my environment in blender blog post and puzzle workshop blog post), instead of the player having to wait for the daytime cycle to pass into a new day naturally, the player will be able to use the mechanic to change the time to whatever hour of the day that they want.


This makes progressing the story and the overall gameplay experience for the player feel quick rather than tediously waiting for the time scale to naturally pass from day to night the incentive that I want the player to understand is that I want the player themselves feeling engaged and in the action so to say whilst interacting with this mechanic as it’s a unique power that they can control in this stellar environment.


There is a time gauge meter (on the HUD of the game shown on my HUD blog post) which if full, the player will be able to utilise the mechanic, if the gauge is empty however the player will have to wait at least 10 seconds before the meter fills up again. The reason as to why I want to incorporate a gauge meter to the mechanic as I didn’t want this to be a mechanic with full unlimited use as I want the player to think logically about when and how to use the mechanic instead of making the gameplay experience too easy from making the mechanic with unlimited use.
